The Shock of the View: Artists, Audiences, and Museums in the Digital Age

example text
How do museums respond to new art practices? How does the public come to understand the "shock" of the new? How can artists sustain new forms of art practice? The Shock of the View was a six-month online program that paired works of art or events from the participating museums with digital works of art or events. Every three weeks new works and commentaries by invited curators, artists, educators, and critics explored the ways digital media impacts artists, audiences, and museums. In addition to the online exhibitions and invited responses, The Shock of the View included a publicly accessible listserv discussion. The Shock of the View was a collaboration between the Walker, the Davis Museum and Cultural Center at Wellesley College, the San Jose Museum of Art, the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University, and Rhizome.
